Goals of the Ship Brooklyn Association
To preserve the history of the ship
Brooklyn and the
history of its 238 passengers, our goals are:
- Compile a library of information on the ship
Brooklyn and
its passengers, thereby making it readily available to family
historians and scholars. Conduct an exhaustive search of public
records, archives, libraries and even old family trucks in attics
and basements. Recruit skilled researchers and/or graduate
students to assist in this effort.
- Publish a newsletter to keep members informed
of ship Brooklyn events and informational materials.
- Encourage the publication of articles,
scholarly papers, and books for both adults and children on the
ship Brooklyn
Voyage.
- Continue to search for "lost" passengers and
all decendants, and add them to our already extensive
database.
- Encourage extended family networking to
facilitate genealogical research and writing family histories.
- Assist families to locate burial sites of
passengers. Encourage them to place suitable markers at the grave
sites.
- Encourage member participation in upcoming
Early California historical commemorations.
- Work to make the voyage of the ship
Brooklyn
become a recognized part of the history curriculum in California
schools and the LDS Church Educational System.
- Encourage local ship Brooklyn commemorative
projects and activities from time to time for descendants and
other members living away from the Bay Area.
- Work with museums and visitor centers to
present the ship Brooklyn story, whereby
tourists and descendants may learn about this great
history.
